About Chetan Kulkarni:
Dr. Dr. Chetan S. Kulkarni is a KBR Inc. Technical Advisor at the Prognostics Center of Excellence and the Diagnostics and Prognostics Group within the Intelligent Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center. His research focuses on Systems Diagnostics, Prognostics, and Health Management (PHM), specifically the development of physics-based and hybrid models for electronic, energy, and exploration ground systems. These technologies support critical applications such as next-generation Urban Air Mobility (UAM) vehicles, airspace safety, and autonomous long-duration space missions.
Dr. Kulkarni is a KBR Senior Technical Fellow (2022) and an AIAA Associate Fellow (2021). He serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE, SAE, and IJPHM journals on topics related to PHM. His leadership roles include serving as Technical Program Committee Co-Chair for the PHM Conference Europe (2018) and the Annual Conference of the PHM Society (2020–2025). He also co-chairs the Professional Development and Education Outreach subcommittee for the AIAA Intelligent Systems Technical Committee.
He earned his Ph.D. ('13) and M.S. ('09) from Vanderbilt University, where he was a Graduate Research Assistant at the Institute for Software Integrated Systems. He holds a B.E. ('02) from the University of Pune, India. Prior to joining Vanderbilt, he was a Research Fellow at IIT-Bombay working on substation automation, and a technical team member at Honeywell India, where he specialized in turnkey power automation projects.
